South Sudan Government Execute Civilians and Burned Houses In Parjok

On Monday 3 April 2017 President Kiir’s Militia attacked Parjok/Pajok town, in Imatong state, Eastern Equatoria. They raped civilians, carried out public executions and burned houses. Below is an unedited text message from an eyewitness:

Dead brother slaughtered like chicken. I thought I lost three of my family members but now still receiving reports my grandm5 from my maternal uncles and 7 of my unties children confirmed dead.

There is a community leader who I personally know have been killed

He was slaughtered in front of the school children who was trying to defend from the Mathiang Anyor (Presidents Militia)

Mathiang Anyor wanted to rape especially the girls and he went to the school to save them.

If you have any body in Kitgum Uganda then we can get reports from the people who have reached there

I have just received a call from Parjok via satellite phone

The government forces have destroyed the telecom tower in Parjok

They have blocked the border cross point to Uganda and returning those who wanted to escape to Uganda back to parjok

We also do have Acholi Generals who want to please the president that they will be able to get rid of IO from their area

The person I spoke to what is telling me that the government forces is killing civilians and throwing the body into Atepi river

In a statement the UN spokesperson, Ms. Kaneko said.

“UNMISS is concerned by these reports and calls on the government to immediately allow the mission access to Parjok, as obligated by the Status of Forces Agreement, so it can fully implement its mandate, including to protect civilians and report on human rights violations,”

“This morning [5 April], the UN mission’s patrol was stopped at a checkpoint seven km outside Torit and was prevented from proceeding further. The patrol remains at the checkpoint and is continuing to negotiate access,”
